Designed and implemented well, Licensing programmes will benefit both Licensor, the party holding and selling the Licensing rights, and Licensee, the party buying and using the rights.

In essence, Licensing programmes work because they make the Licensee brands and/or products more relevant and appealing to its customers by capitalising on the Licensor brands relevance and appeal.

Beyond these trivialities, Licensing is all in in the details, and to the untrained eye, a good Licensing proposition and a poor one will not look much different. Beware of the pitfalls!
